French group StudioCanal and Scandinavian giant Nordisk Film have teamed up on Danish writer/director Tobias Lindholm’s (pictured) upcoming film A War set to start filming in September.
Pilou Asbæk plays a soldier put on trial upon his return from tour of duty in Afghanistan. Other cast members include Tuva Novotny, Søren Malling, Charlotte Munck and Dulfi Al-Jabouri.
Nordisk Film Distribution will handle distribution in the five Nordic territories and Studio Canal will take care of France, Germany, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, as well as other international sales. This is the second time the French giant picks up a Scandinavian language speaking film after The 100 Year-old Man who Climbed the Window and Disappeared.
Tomas Radoor who produces with René Ezra for Nordisk Film Production told nordiskfilmogtvfond.com that the DKK25 million project attracted a lot of interest from potential international co-financiers. “Although some actors will speak in English and in Arabic, A Warremains a Danish film and will be spoken mostly in Danish”, he stressed. StudioCanal will start pre-selling the project in Cannes.
